A Message From Shelly Cook — 1/23/26

This Week at Reitano Vineyards

As we settle into the rhythm of winter here at the vineyard, we find ourselves both reflecting and preparing. This season always invites a little more gratitude, a little more intention, and a lot of quiet work behind the scenes. This week we wanted to share what’s happening right now and what’s coming next, so you don’t miss a single seat, glass, or story.

Our hearts are especially full as we focus on The Rooted Table this Friday and look ahead to our next dinner in February. If you have never attended a Rooted Table dinner, now is truly the time. As we conclude our very first year of farmers supporting farms through these dinners, we are making a sincere effort to reach everyone who may want a seat at the table. These evenings are about more than food. They are about honoring the land, supporting local growers and producers, and gathering in community over a thoughtfully prepared meal. If you’ve been thinking about coming, please reach out. We would love to welcome you.

We’re also excited to share that the second issue of The Rooted Table Magazine is now available. This issue is packed full of stories, recipes, farmer features, seasonal inspiration, and the heart behind what we do here. It’s a beautiful way to take a little piece of the Rooted Table home with you.

For our Wine Club members, there are wonderful things on the horizon. New perks are rolling out, along with a winter meet and greet in February and our very first Wine Club After Hours gathering. We’re looking forward to creating a more intimate space for our members to connect, relax, and enjoy the vineyard in a special way.

February also brings one of our most anticipated events. Our Murder Mystery Dinner on February 13 is now selling, and these evenings always fill quickly. With great food, plenty of laughter, and a little mystery mixed in, it’s a guest favorite and a fun way to celebrate Valentine’s week here at Reitano.

Out in the vines, winter work continues quietly and steadily. Right now, we are spending long hours scraping off spotted lanternfly egg masses to prevent them from hatching in the spring. The spotted lanternfly first appeared in the United States in 2014 and later made its way into Virginia, where it has become a serious threat to vineyards, orchards, and many native plants. Each egg mass can contain dozens of eggs, and removing them now is one of the most effective ways to protect our vines and surrounding farmland. It’s slow, hands on work, but it’s an important part of caring for the land we’ve been entrusted with.

As always, we are deeply thankful for your support, your presence, and the way this community continues to show up for one another and for the land. Winter may look quiet on the surface, but there is so much happening beneath it all, and we’re grateful to walk it together.
